Joyce Ann Roelofs, age 76 of Grand Haven, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 9, 2023. She was born on June 27, 1947, in Grand Rapids, MI to the late Jacob and Tena (Bouwman) Kamstra. She met her husband, Gary Roelofs, while attending Calvin College; they were married on May 6, 1970, in Wyoming, MI.
When their two daughters were young, Joyce was a dedicated full-time, stay-at-home mother. Joyce was generous with her time, regularly volunteering at her church and her girls’ schools, as well as several other service organizations in the US and Central America. Joyce enjoyed working with children and, when her daughters were grown, earned her CDA degree and taught preschool at Joyful Noise in Grand Haven.
In semi-retirement, Joyce and Gary enjoyed delivering freight around the country as owner-operators of a commercial truck while also placing bibles in many truck stops. Throughout their life together, Gary and Joyce enjoyed traveling and seeing the country in their RVs and were able to visit all 50 states and most of the Canadian provinces.
Joyce will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband of 53 years, Gary; and their two daughters, Laura (Brandon) Schultz of Dorr, MI and Lisa Roelofs (Darren Smith) of Rochester Hills, MI; grandchildren: Rachael (Travis) Williams, Dillon (Heidi) Schultz, Jeremy and Nick Schultz; step-grandchildren, Stephanie (Lee) Cook and Leanna (Ollie) Davidson; sister, Nancy Thomas; brother, Ron (Phyllis) Kamstra; siblings-in-law: Esther Kamstra, Alysce Roelofs, and Steve Borgman; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three of her brothers: John, Jack, and Robert Kamstra.
The Memorial Service for Joyce will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Second Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Tim Blackmon officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 17th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. Interment will be at Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery.
