Joyce C. (Kieft) Klaassen

Joyce C. Klaassen, age 86 of Grand Haven, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 in Frankfort, MI. She was born on February 1, 1936 in Grand Haven, MI to the late Thomas and Harriet (Bol) Kieft. Joyce married Donald L. Klaassen on her birthday, February 1, 1952 in Grand Haven. He preceded her in death on August 12, 2021, after 69 years of marriage.

Joyce lived in Grand Haven for most of her life, having moved here from Traverse City. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Traverse City State Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1987. Joyce enjoyed playing cards, reading, and sewing, knitting, and quilting. She loved to travel, and was also talented at wood carving.

Joyce is lovingly remembered and missed by her daughters, Joellen (Chris) Kyser of Interlochen, MI, Marla (Brad) Rockwell of Alton, MO, Janelle Klaassen (Ray Hamid) of Daytona Beach, FL; son-in-law, Dr. Joseph Sage of Grand Rapids, MI; four grandchildren: Jesse (Beth) Kyser, Levi (Laine) Kyser, Dr. Kathrine Sage (Matthew Richenthal), and Anne Sage; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Edare Frifeldt of Grand Haven; brother, Tom (Kathy) Kieft of Grand Haven; sisters-in-law, Roberta Schroeder and Marcie (Larry) Sheffield; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra Sage; and brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Lois Keift.

A Memorial Service for Joyce will take place at a later date.
