Joy Marguerite (Brand) Peters

Joy Marguerite Peters, age 92, of Grand Haven, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, from the rapid development of Dementia. She was born on September 14, 1932, in Niles, MI, to the late Gerald and Alma Dorothea (Moren) Brand.

After graduating high school, Joy set out to find her way in the world. She worked as an executive secretary in Grand Rapids, Detroit, Chicago, and finally in Los Angeles where she met her husband, Vernon G. Peters from Grand Haven, MI. They moved back to Michigan to be closer to family as their family grew.

Joy always wanted to attend college and in the mid-1960's with four small children and a part-time job, she started her degree at G.V.S.U. It took her more than a decade, but she graduated with a B.S in Social Work/Psychology from Ball State University in 1973 and completed her Masters in Psychology in 1978. She finished her career as the Clinic Manager at Midtown's Fountain Square Clinic in Indianapolis, IN, after 13 years of service.

Joy returned to Grand Haven in 1999 and kept active by developing her watercolor painting talent, helping out at "The Gallery Downtown" and volunteering at "The Cheap Stacks" store at Loutit Library.

Joy will be lovingly remembered and missed by her four children: Janine (David) Hodge, Steven Peters, Kay Schatz, and Ronald Peters; six grandchildren: Ronald and Elizabeth Hodge, Matthew, Spencer, Garrett Schatz, and Scott Peters; sister-in-law, Tammy Brand; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her former husband, Vernon G. Peters; brother, Loren Brand; and sister, Joan (Ray) Coahran.

Private family services will be held.
