Joni Nightingale-Hawkins Obituary

Joni Kay Nightingale-Hawkins, age 67, of Robinson Township, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Trinity Health Muskegon Hospital. She was born on August 12, 1956, in Grand Haven, MI, to the late Richard and Madeline "Maggie" (Greenwald) Swiftney, the youngest of three children.

Joni graduated from Grand Haven High School, Class of 1974. She married Floyd Payne and they had two children together, Megan and James. Later, she married the late Roger "Bobby" Nightingale.

Joni worked at the Waverly Home back in the 1980's and 1990's where she enjoyed helping adults with special needs. She also worked at the V.F.W. Post 2326, where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.

Joni loved visits from her grandchildren and whenever they would visit, she would always have a snack ready for them, more than likely, it was candy. In her spare time, she enjoyed planting in her flower beds, and taking long rides through town or on the country roads holding her favorite drink, Pepsi. Joni could not pass up a great garage sale find. Even towards the end of her life she would ask to stop at a garage sale and would have you go in and scope it out to see if there was something there that she would like.

Joni is lovingly remembered and missed by her significant other, James Hawkins; daughter, Megan (Jarod) Rademaker; son, James (Heather) Payne; her six grandchildren: Becca (CJ) Munroe, Riley (Ross) Bergman, Jordyn Rademaker (Carson Cummings), and Lilliana, Brooklynn, and Willow Payne; great-grandson, Wesley Munroe; sister, Vicki Strand; and brother, Denny Swiftney.

In addition to her parents and late husband, Roger, she was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Mikayla Payne in 2016.

The Memorial Service for Joni will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Harbour Light Baptist Church (9608 Hiawatha Dr., West Olive, MI 49460), with Pastor Matt Moore officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests Memorial Contributions be made to Megan Rademaker to help pay for Joni's final expenses.
