John Michael Schultz

John Michael Schultz, age 63, of Grand Haven, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on October 12, 1960, in Grand Haven, MI, to Albert and Margaret (Kresnak) Schultz.

After graduating from Grand Haven High School, John worked as a mechanic at the family owned, “Downtown Automotive” alongside two of his brothers for over 40 years. Together, they were known as the “Schultz Brothers.”

John was hardworking and loved working on cars. He was often found at lunch with his friends and brothers or shooting the breeze with customers at the shop. He enjoyed being a father and grandfather, especially around the holidays, and loved roasting smores and playing family games. He was appreciated and trusted by many customers.

John’s favorite hobby was his red Jimmy, which he enjoyed racing at the sand drags in Silver Lake, as well as climbing the dunes.

John is loved and remembered by his two daughters, Stephanie Schultz (husband, Mehdi Imougay) and Christina Schultz (husband, Jeremy Scharphorn); son, James Schultz; four grandchildren: Kadyn Schultz, Ethan and Emerson Helsel, and Aya Imougay; five sisters: Virginia Machin, Edna (George) Frederick, Loretta (Mike) Larner, Jane (DeWayne) Juhnke, and Mary Schultz; three brothers: Bill Schultz, Jerome (Beverly) Schultz, and Mike (Michelle) Schultz; as well as many nieces and nephews; and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Schultz; and sister-in-law, Mary Schultz.

A Celebration of Life Visitation for John will take place on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Klaassen Family Funeral Home, casual attire requested.
