John Lambert Larson, Jr., 95, died December 9, 2020 at Grand Pines Assisted Living Center in Grand Haven. He was born in Muskegon on April 2, 1925 to John L. and Beda Larson. John served his country in the Army Air Force during World War II and the Navy during the Korean conflict. On June 30, 1956 he married Barbara Anderson at Grace Episcopal Church in Oak Park, IL.
They made their home in Muskegon, moving permanently to Grand Haven in 1969. John worked for the City of Muskegon as an operator and chief operator at the Water Filtration Plant where he enjoyed keeping an eye on the big lake. He retired in 1989 after 31 years. In his retirement he volunteered for North Ottawa Community Hospital delivering Meals on Wheels, installing lifelines, and valet parking for 20 years.
John was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and sang in the choir for over 50 years. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Vikings Linne Lodge in Muskegon, singing in their Swedish choir for many years. In addition to singing, John loved old cars, long bike rides, telling jokes, his morning oatmeal and shoveling snow, which he did into his nineties. He was a friend to many and never hesitated to help wherever he could.
John is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Barbara. Also surviving are his daughter, Carol (David) Baker of East Lansing; son, Eric (Teresa Prince) Larson of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Sarah (David) Barker, Brian Baker, and Tyler and Jake Larson; great-grandchildren, Isaac and Samuel Barker; niece, Janet (John) Krol; and nephews, John (Kay) and Gary Hanis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Signe Larson; brother, Cuno Larson; and sister, Irene Hanis.
The family would like to thank the staff at Grand Pines for their extraordinary care and kindness, Hospice of North Ottawa Community—especially his wonderful nurse, Kim, his trusted and beloved aide, Brenda, his friends from St. John’s, and special family friends, Sue and Nancy Collins.
