John R. Hock, age 98, of Grand Haven, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Allendale Rehab and Nursing Center, with his family by his side. He was born on July 12, 1926, in Milwaukee, WI, to the late John and Rose (Weisel) Hock.
John joined the Navy in his senior year of high school and proudly served his country during World War II. After the war, he joined the US Coast Guard and was stationed in Grand Haven, where he met the love of his life, Marilyn Anderson. They were married in November of 1948, and had one son, Scott. John spent his career working as a welder for various manufacturing facilities throughout his working years.
John was an active member of the American Legion Post 28 and VFW Post 2326. He loved golf and looked forward to the annual L.B. Open golf outing hosted by his great Friends, Lyle and Marylou Morrison. John was a lover of all animals, and never turned away a stray.
John and Marilyn enjoyed camping, fishing, and going on long canoe trips in Canada and the U.P. He and his son were both active in the Boy Scouts and loved cheering on their beloved Green Bay Packers.
John is survived by his daughter-in-law, Christine Morrison-Hock (Greg Bazuin); his grandchildren: Heather (Marcel) Thibert, Hillary Hock; and Nicholas Hock; and three great-grandchildren: Bryson, Braydon, and Braelyn Thibert.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 59 years, Marilyn; his son, Scott Hock (2005); and his sister, Margaret Olson (2021).
The family and the “Girl Gang” would like to thank Interim Hospice, especially John’s nurse, Katie, for her wonderful care given to John during the end of his life.
The family will have of Celebration of Life at a later date to be announced.
