Joan Jean Van Hall Yonker, age 92 of Grand Haven, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at The Leila and Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence. She was born on November 20, 1930 in Spring Lake, MI to Edward and Lucille (Klamut) Van Hall. Joan married Charles Henry Yonker on August 9, 1987 in Muskegon, MI. He preceded her in death on May 2, 2018 after 30 years of marriage.
Joan graduated from Grand Haven High School, Class of 1948. She was a former airline flight attendant for Lake Central Airlines, and later, worked as a Secretary at Brunswick Corporation, Muskegon Paper Box Company, and Newkirk Electric Associates.
Joan enjoyed working on the 1948 Class Reunions and loved typing, knitting, working on jigsaw puzzles and playing bingo. She also did volunteer work for the Loutit Library in the Genealogy Department. Joan was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Dunes and volunteered with the Prayer Shawl Ministry, knitting over 200 afghans.
Joan is survived by Chuck’s five children, their spouses and their families; brother-in-law, Robert (Karen) Yonker; and her faithful friends: Alice Furst, Michelle DeVito, and Bob Sheffield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Loretta Vanderwier.
The Funeral Service for Joan will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, September 25, 2023 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home with Pastor Eldon Eldred officiating. Visitation and Reception will be held following the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests Memorial Contributions be made to the United Methodist Church of the Dunes or American Cancer Society of Michigan.
