Joan Tuuk, age 79 of Grand Haven, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 7, 2021. She was born on August 4, 1941 in Grand Haven, MI to the late William and Doris (VerHoeks) Dempsey. Joan married Russell D. Tuuk on May 21, 1965 in Grand Haven.
Joan graduated from Grand Haven High School, Class of 1960. She attended Summit Church in West Olive and sang in the Ladies Choir at First Reformed Church of Grand Haven.
Joan retired from teaching at Joyful Noise Christian Daycare in 2006, where she worked with infants and toddlers. She then spent her free time caring for and spending time with her grandkids, which she loved.
Joan was an avid softball player and also enjoyed walking, playing miniature golf, and bike riding. She was also an avid gardener and enjoyed tending to her roses and flower gardens.
Joan will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband of 55 years, Russ Tuuk; sons, Kevin (Lisa) Tuuk and Craig (Jodi) Tuuk; daughter, Kimberly (Al) Plantenga; six grandchildren: Brandon, Abby, Brandon, Kylie, Nathan, Emily; brothers, Bill (Jan) Dempsey, Jim (Kay) Dempsey, Rich (Karen) Dempsey, Dave (Eden) Dempsey; in-laws, Johanna Schotty and Carl (Linda) Tuuk; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Joyce Welling and Warrene Long. The family would like to give a special “thank you” to Hospice of North Ottawa Community for the excellent care they gave to Joan.
The Memorial Service for Joan will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Summit Church, (15020 Stanton St, West Olive, MI 49460) with Pastor Ken Gentzler officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Church. Masks and Social Distancing will be required at all services.
