Joan Barbara Ebel, age 93, of Grand Haven, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Hospice at Heartwood Lodge. She was born on February 20, 1932, in Grand Haven, MI, to the late George and Emma (Lange) Briegel. Joan married Edward Ebel on October 8, 1954, in Grand Haven. He preceded her in death on December 24, 2021, after 67 years of marriage.
Joan graduated from Grand Haven High School and was the longest living member of St. Paul's United Church. She enjoyed knitting, playing Canasta, going to the cabin, and spending time with all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her one wish was to be around to meet all of her great-grandchildren, which was fulfilled.
Joan was a very hard worker, fun loving, boisterous, and outgoing. She began life as a city girl who then turned into a country girl, especially when up at the cabin. Joan would catch turtles with her grandkids and paint the kid's names on the turtles then releasing them back into the lake. Most important to Joan was her family, especially her two sisters, who were her best friends.
Joan is lovingly remembered and missed by her two sons, Steve (Elaine) Ebel and Craig (Lucy) Ebel; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Barbara Jo (Jeff) DeVecht; two sisters, Ruth Kieft and Marie Nykamp; and her brother, Carl Briegel.
The Memorial Service for Joan will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, with Pastor Matthew Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ.
