Joan Marie Dikeman, age 87, of Muskegon, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence. She was born on July 10, 1937, in Muskegon, MI, to the late Bert and Mary (Kwak) Kulesza. Joan married Larry Dikeman on September 26, 1959, in Muskegon. They were married for 41 years and, after divorcing, were blessed to still be good friends. Larry preceded her in death on October 31, 2015.
Joan attended St. Michael's Elementary School and Muskegon Catholic Central, graduating from Muskegon Heights High School in 1956. She loved the Detroit Red Wings Hockey and never missed a game on TV! She also loved to travel - vacationing on Sanibel Island, short weekend getaways with her daughter and son-in-law, and even taking a trip to Egypt years ago.
While Joan was married to Larry, they traveled much of the United States on family vacations. She also very much looked forward to her lunch dates with high school friends. Joan loved hosting family gatherings for holidays when she was younger. Family was most important to her, and she absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joan will be lovingly remembered and is survived by her two children, Judy (Todd) Brower and David (Lorie) Dikeman, all of Grand Haven; three grandchildren: Ashley (Tim) Meyer, Steve (Kaitlin) Brower, and Nathan Dikeman; her three great-grandsons; step-grandchildren: Amber (Mick) Gunn, Aleesha Kitchen, John Hittle, and Joseph (Kortney) Dresen; many step-great-grandchildren; sister, Rose VanderVeen and her family of Spring Lake; brother, John (Dawn) Kulesza and their family of North Muskegon; many nieces and nephews; as well as many precious friends who will forever keep her memory alive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband, Larry; sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Ken Baskin; and brother-in-law, Terry Vanderveen.
The Graveside Service for Joan will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Muskegon, with Deacon Jim Cross officiating. Celebration of life to follow at Fricano’s in Muskegon at 4:30 p.m.
