Jean Cecilia Green, age 70 of Grand Haven, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2022. She was born on May 2, 1952 in Sturgeon Bay, WI to the late William and Cecilia (Daubner) Olson. Jean married the love of her life and best friend, James “Jim” Green on May 15, 1971 in Sister Bay, WI. He preceded her in death on July 29, 2022 after 51 years of marriage.
Early on, Jean took whatever jobs she could to make ends meet while also tirelessly working to raise four boys over the span of nearly 14 years, as Jim’s Coast Guard posts had them moving all around the country’s coasts before they were able to put down roots in Grand Haven in 1985. For over 35 years, Jean worked as the office manager for Grabman Sheet Metal in Grand Haven, which later transitioned into a roofing company. She was like a mom to many that worked there, and was a confidant to her co-workers.
Jean was a member of St. Patrick - St. Anthony’s Catholic Parish for many years, and was a constant giver and donator to several organizations and charities over the years. She lived an incredibly selfless life; never complaining about herself or circumstances all the way up to her final days, while always feeling for and loving everyone around her and supporting them any way she could.
Upon Jim’s retirement from the Coast Guard, Jean received official recognition for her “unselfish, faithful and devoted service during her husband’s Coast Guard career.” Family was everything to her, and she never wanted anything more in life than to spend time with loved ones.
Among many things, Jean loved her dogs, her pot-bellied “grandpiggers,” Bubba, her Green Bay Packers (“Go Pack Go!”), and she was never too shy to share how immensely proud she was of her kids and grandkids.
Jean is lovingly remembered by those fortunate enough to have known her as “Mama Jean” and survived by her four sons, Jonathon Green, Jeffrey (Wendy) Green, Jeremy (Lindsay) Green, and Joseph (Angela) Green; her eight beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Taylor, Taylor Conner, Shelby Green, Maverick Green, Ava Green, Drake Green, Gavin Green, and Callum Green; great-grandson, Grayson Taylor; her brother, William “Buddy” Olson; and two brothers-in-law, Thomas and Todd Green.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James; and siblings, Lois Gauthier and Robert Olson.
A Double Celebration of Life for Jean & James Green will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home with Fr. Norm Droski officiating. Full Military Honors for James will be performed by the American Legion, Charles A. Conklin Post 28, and the US Coast Guard. Visitation for both Jean & James will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A double interment will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
