Janice Parcheta Obituary

Janice Elaine Parcheta, age 86, of Spring Lake, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025, surrounded by her family at Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence. She was born the second child and first daughter on July 7, 1938, in Grand Haven, MI, to the late Donald and Elva (Kanouse) Ogden. Janice married Harry V. Parcheta on October 30, 1963. He preceded her in death on June 7, 2022, after 59 years of marriage.

Janice graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1958, where she was a synchronized swimmer and honor roll student. She participated in co-op before graduating from high school, working for lawyers, Kirby & Lieffers, and hired in as a secretary afterwards. Janice then worked in the mail station at Oldberg Manufacturing, where she and Harry met. She later worked as a secretary at Northwestern Insurance Company and ended her working career as secretary at the Grand Haven Salvation Army.

Janice and Harry settled in Spring Lake where they resided in the same home for nearly 60 years. Janice attended Bethel Baptist Church in Fruitport for several decades. She was a Civilian Air Patrol member (where she even flew once), was actively involved in the Catalina Club, and participated in numerous bowling leagues throughout the years. She also enjoyed aerobics and playing card games.

Janice spent countless hours with her three cousins, Gloria, Rosalind, and Carol, all of whom graduated alongside her. She deeply loved Harry, her kids, her grandkids, and her house pets. Cats and dogs were considered equal members of the family. Janice had a great sense of humor, was friendly to everyone, and especially loved visiting with her family and friends.

Janice will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew her, including her daughter, Valerie (Marc) Blondin; her three sons: Steve (Susan) Slatter, Randy (Shelia) Slatter, and Chris (Joy) Parcheta; and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Harry, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Donald (Rosie) Ogden, Jr.; and brother-in-law, David Parcheta.

The Funeral Service for Janice will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Klaassen Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Bruce Ballast officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will be next to her husband at Spring Lake Township Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Harbor Humane Society or Heaven Can Wait.
