Janet Elaine (Berkompas) Meyers

Janet Elaine Meyers, age 89, of Grand Haven, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 5, 2024. She was born on September 26, 1934, Rudyard, MI, to the late George and Elizabeth (Ploegstra) Berkompas. Jan married Paul Meyers on October 11, 1962 in Rudyard. He preceded her in death on October 26, 2016, after 54 years of marriage.

Jan was a woman of deep faith and was a member of First Christian Reform Church, where she served faithfully in several volunteer roles. For many years, she worked in the front office at Grand Haven Christian School as bookkeeper, and later, as a store manager at Once and Again.

Jan enjoyed camping, sewing, canning, and spending time with her grandchildren and longtime friends: Tillie, Ethel, Arlene, and Gladys.

Jan is lovingly remembered and missed by her daughters, Karen Meyers and Sue (Paul) Soper; her son, Steve (Tonya) Meyers; grandchildren: Elizabeth (Ben) Hill, Lydia (David) Weflen, and Sam Soper, Anna and Megan Meyers; great-granddaughter, Eleanor Janet Hill; sisters-in-law: Jan Berkompas, Nancy Berkompas, Lois Berkompas, and Jean Talsma; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers: Howard Berkompas, Ted Berkompas, Ed (Julie) Berkompas, George Berkompas; and two sisters, Ruth Berkompas and Wilma (Bill) Lenger. 

The Memorial Service for Jan will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 9, 2024, at First Church Grand Haven, with Pastor Arthur Van Wolde officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 8th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. Interment will be at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
