Janet Elaine (Hoekstra) Cuddington

Janet Elaine Cuddington, age 89 of Grand Haven, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Robbinswood Assisted Living. She was born on September 8, 1934 in Chicago, IL to the late Albert and Lena (Slinkman) Hoekstra. She married Charles Cuddington on September 10, 1953 in Grand Haven. He preceded her in death in 1991. She was also preceded in death by her companion friend, Mel Meyers in 2015.

Janet graduated from Grand Haven High School, was a lifelong resident of Grand Haven, and worked as a School Bus driver for Grand Haven Area Public Schools until her retirement. She regularly attended the VFW, and was an avid bowler and Detroit Tigers fan. Janet loved to travel and did a lot of it upon her retirement, spending a lot of time in Florida in the colder months. She enjoyed watching football, boating, snowmobiling, and especially loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a tender hearted soul who also loved animals, especially dogs, and was good at striking up a conversation with just about anyone.

Janet is lovingly remembered and missed by her daughter, Sandy (Bill) Buitenhuis of Bristol, IN; three sons: Chuck Cuddington of Wayland, MI, Jon (Sue) Cuddington of Grand Haven, and Tim (Jean) Cuddington of Grand Haven; eight grandchildren: Sheila (Tim) Fuller, Ryan and Jason Buitenhuis, Kati Tagge, Connie (Joey) Luoma, Charles Cuddington, Abby (Jack) Kennedy, and Logan Cuddington; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Cathy (Dale) DeYoung; brother, Albert (Joyce) Hoekstra; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters: Bert (Henry) Plantenga, Bea (Edward) Wallish, and Linda Watters.

A Graveside Service for Janet will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Lake Forest Cemetery with Pastor Joe O’Neill officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 15th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Klaassen Family Funeral Home.
