James “Jim” Joseph Alexander, age 64 of Spring Lake, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023, after a long illness. He was born on February 20, 1959 in Memphis, TN to James E. and Elaine (Datwyler) Alexander.
Jim was a successful entrepreneur and businessman, specializing in the consumer electronics industry. He spent several years as a regional sales representative for JVC, and then branched out on his own, servicing the DISH network industry and becoming a top distributor.
Jim grew up in Marin County, California, where he became an avid sailor, learning to sail in the San Francisco Bay. He also was an expert skier and accomplished golfer who enjoyed visiting resorts around the Lake Tahoe area. His passion for boating followed him to Michigan, and he became a crew member in several Chicago to Mackinac sailing events. Jim eventually changed to power boat sports and enjoyed his time on Lake Michigan. He also loved to travel and spent several years living on Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands.
Along with his passion for boating, Jim also enjoyed astronomy and was a member of the Muskegon Astronomical Society.
Jim is survived by his beloved children, Megan (Dave) Alexander Papp and Tyler Alexander; his former wife and best friend, Margaret Alexander; sisters, Julie (Dan) Maguire and Diana Trimberger; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Jane Alexander.
A Celebration of Life Luncheon for family and close friends will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at the Wildwood Springs Clubhouse, Spring Lake.
