James Howard Fett, age 92, of Grand Haven, passed away surrounded by his family, on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Trinity Health Muskegon Hospital. He was born on October 23, 1932, to the late Walter and Nellie (Ruiter) Fett, Sr. Jim married Joan Comly on June 28, 1952, in Grand Haven.
Jim graduated from Grand Haven High School and then Muskegon Business College, where he also taught evening classes in accounting. He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean Conflict. Jim started his working years at Oldberg Manufacturing, then going on to work for Muskegon Piston Ring and Johnson Technologies. He owned and operated Johnson's Grocery Store in Grand Haven for many years before going back into manufacturing, taking a controller position at Grand Haven Plastics.
Jim was a proud member of the Grand Haven Elks Lodge #1200 and participated in a Golf League through the Muskegon Elks Lodge. He was a long-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he enjoyed being a counter for many years.
Jim enjoyed bowling in a league at Starlite Lanes for many years. He was also an avid Detroit Tiger's baseball and U of M Wolverines fan who enjoyed playing cards with friends, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, and playing in a softball league.
Jim will be forever remembered and missed by his wife of 72 years, Joan; and their three daughters: Debbie (Rock) Helsel, Karen (Roy) Johnson, and Pam (Roger) Kintner; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard and Gary (Ruth Ann) Fett; son-in-law, Joe Gannon; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Fett.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathie Gannon (2018); three brothers: Walter, Jr., Charles, and Gene Fett; daughter-in-law, Judith Comly; and parents-in-law, Arthur and Mildred Comly.
The Funeral Service for Jim will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 10, 2025, at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Aaron Vergin officiating. Full Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion, Charles A. Conklin Post 28. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 9th, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., at Klaassen Family Funeral Home.
Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery
