James Arbogast Brooks, age 61 of Myrtle Beach, SC (formerly of Grand Haven) loving husband, son, brother, and father, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on May 21, 1960 in Grand Haven, MI to the late George and Irene Arbogast. He married his devoted wife, best friend, and love of his life, Dana Brooks, on May 3, 2014 in Myrtle Beach, SC.
James received his golf course management degree from the Golf Academy of America. He was a pro-golfer and instructor for 30 years and worked with several PGA tour professionals. Upon his retirement, James enjoyed playing on the Sunbelt Senior tour, and traveling around the country. Anyone who knew him knew they could always find him on the golf course, and he loved teaching young aspiring golfers and veterans.
James was also a die-hard Detroit Lions football and Detroit Tigers baseball fan who loved his Volvo C70 convertible and his devoted dog, Divot. He was known for his quick wit, infectious smile, beautiful baby-blue eyes, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
James is survived by his wife, Dana; his children, Justin, Jordan, and Connor; his mother, Irene; sister, Terri (Arbogast) Start; his niece, Kristin Start; nephew, Michael Start; and his precious grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his father, George; and mother-in-law, Sharon Peldzus.
The Memorial Service for James will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Besemer officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
