Jacqueline "Jackie" Rae (Dirkse) Simpson

Jacqueline R. Simpson, age 87 of Grand Haven, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at North Ottawa Community Hospital. She was born on March 2, 1932 in Grand Rapids, to the late Dick and Sally (Houck) Dirkse. Jackie married Vernon Simpson on September 15, 1951 in Grand Haven, and he preceded her in death on March 17, 2014, after 62 years of marriage.

Jackie was employed by Bastian Blessing for some years then went on to be the book-keeper at Jerry Weavers Scrap Metal.  After Weavers closed, Jackie spent the next ten years working for Grand Haven Public Schools with the custodial team.  She had many different talents and skills which served her well in her working years. Jackie loved being outdoors and enjoyed cross-country skiing, bike-riding, and working in her garden. She liked to read and could often be found crocheting and knitting as well. Jackie will be lovingly remembered and missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her sons, Tim (Lynn) Simpson, Scott Simpson, and Robin Simpson (Tammi Burns); grandchildren, Nick, Kevin, Corey (Caitlyn) Simpson, and Heather (Matt) Neuhaus; great-granddaughters, Mollie and Madyson Neuhaus; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sons, Chris and Shawn Simpson; brother, Jack Dirkse; sister, Karyn Draper; and sister-in-law, Kathy Blomquist.

A Graveside Service will be held at a later date at Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church or St. John’s Lutheran School.
