Jack E. Petersen, born on June 9, 1937, in Corunna, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 19, 2025, in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. He was 87 years old.
Jack proudly served his country with distinction. He began his military career in the United States Navy before transitioning to the United States Coast Guard. During his service, he was stationed aboard the USCGC Buttonwood and the USCGC Winnebago, contributing to missions that reflected his dedication and commitment to duty.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Connie; his sons, Marc (Diana) Petersen and Paul (Stacey) Petersen; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Sonya (Gary) Newman.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine; his brothers, Jim and Tom; and his parents, Thomas and Gladys Petersen.
A man of quiet strength and enduring loyalty, Jack leaves behind a legacy of service and family devotion. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. To quote a lifelong friend and fellow Coastie, “Fair winds and Following seas to a fine mariner.” May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
A Graveside Service for Jack will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Lakewood Cemetery (2197 W. Lakewood Blvd., Holland, MI).
