Jack V. Farmer, age 97, of Spring Lake, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 22, 2024 at a local care facility. Born in Grant, MI, he lived many years in Muskegon Heights before moving to Spring Lake in 1966. He is best known as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend to many.
Jack’s passions included woodworking, home improvement projects, and taking exceptional care of the yard. Jack was truly the “jack-of-all-trades.” One of his most ambitious projects was building a tent camper from scratch, which served the family well on the many camping trips in Michigan and across the U.S.A.
Jack worked many years in the shipping, receiving, delivery, and maintenance fields. He retired from McDonald Dairy in 1979 and the Grand Haven Church of the Dunes in 1990. Jack was proud to serve his country during WWII. He entered the Army in 1944 where he served as a patrol guard in Italy.
Jack is preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 69 years, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Jensen Farmer; and his eldest son, Paul Jack Farmer.
Jack is survived by children: Debbie (Russ) Harwood, Mark (Sandy) Farmer, and Brad Farmer. He is also survived by granddaughter, Abby (Tony) Naska and great-grandson, Gino Naska.
A private graveside service with full military honors will be held in the spring, at Spring Lake Township Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Mid-Michigan Honor Flight or Gentiva Hospice.
