Jack James Buckner, age 84 of Grand Haven, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2020 at a local care facility. He was born on August 18, 1935 in Grand Haven, MI to the late Merton and Florence (Payne) Buckner. Jack married Ruth Ann Melcher on September 12, 1953 in Grand Haven, MI.
Jack was a lifelong resident of Grand Haven and attended St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he also served as Trustee and Usher. He also previously served on the St. John’s Lutheran School board. Jack worked for Eagle Ottawa Leather Co. for 9 years, Consumers Power Co. at the Nuclear Plant for 22 years, Grand Haven Board of Light and Power as the General Manager for 4 years, and retired from Consumers Power after going back to work there for another 5 years.
Upon his retirement, Jack enjoyed traveling to Florida in the winter, as well as gardening, fishing, camping, and cooking outside in the summer months. He loved being out in nature watching the wildlife and going square dancing with Ruth Ann.
Jack will be remembered and missed by his wife of 66 years, Ruth Ann; daughter, Sharrel (Dan) Reaume of Grand Haven; his sons, Marvin (Rose) Buckner of Hernando, FL and William Buckner of Allegan, MI; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Vera Sutton of Grand Haven.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jacqueline Landry; sister, Doris Thomas; and brother-in-law, Chuck Sutton.
The Memorial Service for Jack will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Kurt Wenzelburger officiating. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran School.
