Iva Hutchinson Obituary

Iva Lorane Hutchinson, age 92 of Nunica, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022 from complications of Covid-19. She was born on March 24, 1929 in Grand Rapids, MI to the late Joe and Lila (VanAllen) Hamstra.

In the summer of 1947, Iva met the love of her life, Earl Hutchinson, and they married on June 24, 1948. He preceded her in death on February 8, 1995, after 46 years of marriage. As honeymooners, Iva and Earl lived in Oregon where their first two children, Bob and Sharon, were born. They returned to Michigan in 1957, where their third child, Nancy, was born.

Iva was a lifetime member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She volunteered once a week to the SDA welfare center, serving the needs of the Grand Haven area. She loved spending time with her family and church family. Iva was called grandma by all, and she always tried to be involved and active in her church, which was one of her favorite places to be.

In her younger years, Iva was an extremely talented seamstress, making her own clothes, and eventually her daughter’s clothes. She made so many wedding dresses that she lost count. Iva also loved doing ceramics and crocheting, and she loved giving her home-made, crocheted blankets away. Iva was an excellent vegetarian cook and a great hostess as well. She loved having company over, especially for Sabbath lunch. Everyone was welcomed into her home.

With a nest empty, Iva and Earl turned their basement into an apartment. There have been so many different people and families that have lived in that basement apartment through the years. For the last six years, Iva’s granddaughter, Marisa, husband, David, and their two kids, Milo and Penny, were able to occupy that space and help take care of her. They brought such happiness and joy to Iva’s life!

Iva will be very much be missed by her “favorite son,” Bob (Jill) Hutchinson of Grand Haven; and her two daughters, Sharon Siewert and Nancy Hutchinson, whom Iva often thanked for giving her such beautiful grey hair!; her beloved grandchildren, Matthew Siewert, Eric (Amy) Gladding, Marisa (David) Fletter, Kyle (Stephanie) Gladding, and Micanna Hutchinson (Scott Blodgett); and three great-grandchildren, Milo Fletter, Penny Fletter, and Evie Gladding; her “adopted grandchildren,” Sarah and Jim Slater, The Frain family: Nancy, Kurt, Chris, Matt, Tim, and Jenny, and all their spouses and children; and her siblings, Genie, Doris, and Ernie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; her grandson, Aaron Siewert; and four sisters: Millie, Margaret, Lucy, and Annie.

The Funeral Service for Iva will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastors Ted Toms and Jarod Thomas officiating.

Interment will be at Nunica Cemetery (Crockery Township).
