Irene Ruth Boersen, age 73 of West Olive, passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was born on April 1, 1948 in Douglas, MI to the late Foster and Nelda (Warfield) Warren. Irene married the love of her life, Irv Boersen, on June 27, 1969 in Ganges, MI.
Irene graduated from Fennville High School and went on to obtain her Bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University. She worked as an Elementary School teacher for Hamilton Public Schools, at the Burnips Site, and worked in marketing at Zelenka’s Nursery for 37 years.
Irene was a long-time member of First Reformed Church in Grand Haven and she enjoyed spending her time serving her church as a volunteer librarian, and also the people in her community through volunteering. Irene’s faith and love of the Lord always got her through the rough times in life. She enjoyed reading, spending time with her friends, and quilting.
Irene is lovingly remembered and missed by her husband of 51 years, Irv; her two sisters, Evelyn (Larry) Elrod of Trenton, MI, Marie Tibbits of Holland, MI; her brother, Ken Warren of Ganges, MI; brothers-in-law, Vernon (Marilyn) Boersen, Sherwin (Norma) Boersen, and Jack (Bev) Boersen; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Teresa Warren.
The Funeral Service for Irene will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at First Reformed Church with Rev. John Kenny and Rev. Kathy Bartels officiating. Visitations will be held on Monday, May 31, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Klaassen Family Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the Church on Tuesday. Interment will be at Bentheim Cemetery.
