Howard Donald Goodwin

Howard Donald Goodwin, age 86 of Allendale, MI, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022 at Medi-lodge of Holland. He was born on August 5, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY to Edward and Emma (Thompson) Goodwin. Howard married Mary Sabina on June 20, 1980 in East Moriches, NY.

Upon his graduation from high school, Howard proudly served his country in the US Army from 1958 to 1960. He spent his career working in the financial and insurance industries for several years before his retirement.

Howard worshipped at Robinson Grace Church and was previously a member of Eastport Bible Church in New York where he was very active, serving as youth leader and usher, and volunteering on youth retreats. Howard was also a member of The Gideons International, member of the East Moriches School Board, and was a member and past president of Westhampton Rotary Club, where he received the Paul Harris Fellow Award.  He was also a longtime member of the DAV.

Howard and his entire family were die-hard and long-suffering Mets, Jets, and Islanders fans, and for many years, he was involved in his children’s East Moriches community sports programs. Howard was an excellent joke-teller, and a musical and movie enthusiast who was known as a great people-person and always had a smile for everyone he met.

Howard is lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 42 years, Mary; his daughter, Elizabeth Erwin; sons, Phillip (Maria), Donald, Stephen, and Michael; his five beloved grandchildren, Donald Jr., Danielle, Kimberly (Jonty) McIntrye, Emma and Jackson; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and all nine siblings, Edward, Anne, Florence, Raymond, Dorothy, Eleanor, Helen, Robert, and George.

The Funeral Service for Howard will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 5, 2022 at Robinson Grace Church with Pastor Charley Young officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
