Henrietta Verhoeven, age 102 of Grand Haven, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 19, 2021. She was born on March 31, 1919 in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands, to the late Adrian and Hilda (Brouwer) Bruininks. She married Jacob M. Verhoeven on May 21, 1940 in Grand Haven, MI. He preceded her in death in May of 1964.
Upon moving to Grand Haven in 1940, Henrietta spent most of her career working as a Unit Secretary in healthcare settings. She worked for Blodgett Hospital, North Ottawa Community Hospital, and Christian Haven Home. Henrietta was a member of First Christian Reformed Church and also attended First Reformed Church with her family often. She was a member of the Ladies Aide and Christian School Auxiliary, as well as the Tuesday Musical Club. Henrietta was a humble, kind, loving and hospitable woman who enjoyed reading, traveling, and socializing with her friends.
Henrietta is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Marilyn (John) Buikema of Spring Lake; three grandchildren: Mitch (Katherine) Buikema and their children, Olivia, Autumn, Gabrielle, Parker Buikema, Tamara (Bruce) Nelson, and Hunter (Karen) Buikema and their children, Elisha, Noah, and Chase Buikema.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Alice Hoitinga and Gertrude Gunther; two brothers, Marinus and Henry Bruininks; and her sister-in-law, Dorothy Verhoeven.
The Funeral Service for Henrietta will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at First Reformed Church with Pastor John Kenny and Dave Bruininks officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Masks and Social Distancing will be required. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery.
