Hendrikje '”Hennie” Scholte-Knoll Obituary

Hendrikje '”Hennie” Scholte-Knoll, age 94 of Grand Haven and formerly of Chicago, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Grand Pines Assisted Living. She was born on December 8, 1926 to the late Harmen and Angie (Slootheer) Schokker in Friesland, The Netherlands. Hennie married Marten Scholte on April 6, 1948 in Drachten, Netherlands, and he preceded her in death on November 12, 1988. She then married Julius “Juke” E. Knoll on December 20, 1990 in North Holland and he preceded her in death on January 26, 2011.

Hennie moved to the Grand Haven area from Chicago, IL. She was a Custodial Care Tech at Ferry Public Schools for 15 years and was in the farming business back in the Netherlands. Hennie was a member of West Olive Christian Reformed Church and enjoyed puzzles, painting, gardening, and crocheting.

Hennie is lovingly remembered and survived by her four daughters: Angie (Don) Moore of Chicago, IL, Binnie (Steve) Hackney of Muskegon, Roely Roberson of Arizona, Adeline (Brent) Ruiter of Grand Haven; her two sons, Andrew Scholte of Arizona, and Herman (Brenda) Scholte of Fruitport; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three step-children: Leon (Jacki) Knoll of Holland, Steve (Jeanette) Knoll of North Carolina and Edwin (Barbara) Knoll of Holland; and her sister, Jenny (Rinus) Schingenga of the Netherlands.

She was preceded in death by her step-son, James Knoll; son-in-law, Carl Roberson; siblings, Albert Schokker, Roely (Frans) Kooyenga, Harmen (Akky) Schokker; sister-in-law, Jeanette Knoll; and brother in law, Willis (Ruth) Knoll.

The family would like to thank the staff at Grand Pines Assisted Living and Hospice of North Ottawa Community for being so loving to Hennie during her time there.

A Private Funeral Service for Hennie will take place at Klaassen Family Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Stevens officiating. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests Memorial Contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
