Hazel Lenoir (Chaffee) Mroz

Hazel Lenoir Chaffee Mroz, age 99 of Grand Haven, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 22, 2023. Hazel and her twin brother, Harold, were born on the Fritz family farm in Crockery Township, MI, on August 30, 1924, to the late Earl and Ruby (Fritz) Chaffee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Mroz of Muskegon, MI.

Hazel attended Clark School in Robinson Township, MI, and pursued a career as a beautician, eventually owning her own beauty shop in Detroit, MI, for over 30 years. She retired at age 85 from Fricano’s Muskegon Lake.

Hazel enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, cooking, and reading. She especially enjoyed playing cards and dice games, playing pool, fishing, and finding a good garage sale.

Hazel was a fan of all sports and was a “people person” which translated into an incredible circle of friends. She would want her family and friends to celebrate her life with a toast and a prayer to her long and full life. 

Hazel will be forever remembered and missed by her daughter, Sharon (Howard) Meece; three grandchildren: Karen (Greg) Ackerman, Robert Busby, Jr., and Mark (Erin) Busby; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Robert (Liz) Chaffee; sisters, Edna Herron and Delores (Bud) Beverly; sister-in-law, Alva Chaffee; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Robert Busby, Sr.; four brothers: Harold (Alice), Charles (Irene), Arthur (Nell), Russell (Mona) Chaffee; four sisters: Ethel Chaffee, Erma (John) Shear, Arlene (Paul) Bour, Mary (Karl) Nowak; and brother-in-law, Thomas Herron.

The family would like to thank Hazel’s friends: Bob and Mary Kramer, Kate Laughlin of Four Pointes Center for Successful Aging, Linda Smith, Trevor and Krystal Miller, and the staff at Robbins Nest Apartments for all the special care given to Hazel.

At her request, no services will be held. Interment will be at Robinson Township Cemetery.
