Harlow "Jack" John Mitchell, age 92, of Ludington, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Oakview Medical Care Facility in Ludington, MI. He was born on September 13, 1932, in Ludington, MI, to the late Homer and Anna (Carlson) Mitchell. Jack married Helen Frances Anderson on May 23, 1962, and she preceded him in death on November 21, 1973.
Jack graduated from Ludington High School, Class of 1950, and then proudly served his country in the US Army for a few months in 1953. He worked as an engineer retiring from C & O Railroad and then retired from Consumer's Energy.
Jack was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed deer hunting, traveling to Alaska, and working on crossword puzzles. He was also skilled in drawing and was musically inclined; he especially enjoyed playing the trumpet. As a young adult, Jack earned his private pilot's license and enjoyed flying single-engine planes.
Jack will be remembered and missed by his daughter, Laurie Mitchell of Grand Haven; two granddaughters, Emma (Lucas) Cole and Erica Mitchell; great-granddaughter, Elisabeth; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; daughter, Terrie Anna; brother and sister-in-law, Robert & Sharon Mitchell; and sister and brother-in-law, Vivian & Donald Sleeper.
A Graveside Service for Jack will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Lakeview Cemetery in Ludington.
