Glen Mason Obituary

Glen Lafayette Mason, age 95 of Grand Haven, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Holland Hospital. He was born on June 20, 1928, in Clarksville, AR, to the late Fielerno and Susie (Sindle) Mason. Glen married Geraldine Marler on April 12, 1948, in Hernando, MS. She preceded him in death on February 25, 2022, after 73 years of a happy marriage.

Glen eventually made his way to Traverse City, MI, to pick cherries, but quickly realized that this was not enough work to sustain his family. He then began trade work as a welder at Anderson-Bolling Manufacturing. He then worked for Welded Products, then becoming a part of the Pipe Fitters Union.

Glen was a standout basketball player in high school. He loved working with his hands and being out in nature, collecting branches and small logs from his farm to make custom canes which he hand-made. Glen was an excellent and skilled welder, and even made the original gate for the entrance to Duncan’s Woods. Glen enjoyed going for rides and traveling with Geraldine, and he loved his grand-dogs, country music, and watching country music shows on T.V. He also loved riding his quad all the way into his 90’s.

Glen will be forever remembered and missed by his two daughters, Pamela Rumsey and Charolette Mason; his son, Rick Mason; four grandchildren: Chad (Michele) Herreman, Blake (Shannon) Falconer, Lance Falconer, and Darbie (Rich) Sandwick; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; his brother, B.D. (Ann) Mason; sister-in-law, Blanche Stanford; brother-in-law, Dennis (Irene) Marler; and several extended family.

He was preceded in death by his wife; son-in-law, Arthur Rumsey; and brother, Bob Mason.

The Memorial Service for Glen and Geraldine will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Klaassen Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Doug Bytwerk officiating. Interment will be at Grand Haven Township Historic Cemetery.
