Mrs. Gertrude “Gert” R. Miller, 101 years old, of Grand Haven, transitioned into the next chapter of her journey on the evening of Monday, May 10, 2021. She was born on August 1, 1919 in Racine, Wisconsin to the late Adolph and Teresa (Spieker) Schirott. Gert married her high school sweetheart, Jerome “Jerry” H. Miller on June 13, 1941, and they enjoyed a good life together, wintering for 22 years in Florida and traveling. He preceded her in death on May 17, 2004 after 62 years of their happy marriage.
Gert was a former member of the Grand Haven Elk’s Club, as well as the American Legion Auxiliary, Charles A. Conklin Post 28. She was a retired Registered Nurse who enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with her many friends, family, her great-grandchildren, and her bridge groups; all of which kept her active.
Gertrude is lovingly remembered and missed by her twin son and daughter, Jerry Miller of Racine, WI, and Jeanne “Tootie” Miller of Grand Haven, MI; daughter, Sue (Tom) Bosman of Marshall, MI; son, Tom (Mary Lee) Miller of Anchorage, AL; eight beloved grandchildren: Kimberly, Stephanie, Joe, Jennifer, Susie, Robbie, Ronnie, and Rick; seven great-grandchildren: Rachel, Dean, Alexandra, Liam, Hadley, Caleb, and Alexis; and many loving nieces and close nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jerome; sister, Katherine Miller; brother, Eugene Schirott; and close sister-in-law, Evelyn Schirott.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 14, 2021 at St. Patrick – St. Anthony’s Catholic Parish, with Fr. Charles Schwartz officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Masks and Social Distancing will be required. A private interment will be held in Racine, Wisconsin.
