Gerald John Yaklin, age 85 of Grand Haven, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2020 at home. He was born on November 8, 1934 in Lincoln Park, MI to the late Phillip and Victoria (Deitering) Yaklin. Gerald married Adrienne Pitrak on March 17, 1982 in Grand Blanc, MI.
Gerald proudly served his country in the US Army from 1954 to 1957. He worked for 40 years as an engineer for AC Delco division of General Motors. He loved his cars, especially Corvettes. Jerry kept himself busy by always having a project to work on; everything from numerous house remodeling projects and car restoration projects, to building a fort for his grandchildren.
Jerry will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 38 years, Adrienne; daughter, Linda (Joey) Byrd of Rockingham, N.C.; sons, Christopher (Amy) Yaklin of Ellerbe, N.C., Gregory (Shelleye) Yaklin of Grand Haven, MI, Stephen (Andrea) Karas of Charlotte, N.C.; 18 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Theresa Duringer of Camas, WA; and sister-in-law, Sandra Mayer of Chicago. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Phyllis Murphy and Delphine Miller; as well as his son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Laura Yaklin.
A Funeral Service for Jerry will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Lakeshore Baptist Church, Grand Haven, MI with Pastor Nate Birkholz officiating. There will be a time of fellowship and continued visitation with the family until 2:00 p.m. after the service at the church. Full Military Rites will be performed by the American Legion, Charles A. Conklin Post 28. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Lakeshore Baptist Church from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
