Georgia "GG" Reid Obituary

Georgia Gail (GG) Havens-Reid, age 71 of Robinson Township, was welcomed into the arms of her Savior, Jesus, on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. She was born on June 23, 1951 in Carrollton, IL to the late George and Stella (Galenski) Havens.

GG graduated from Jersey Community High School in 1969 and went on to receive her degree in Elementary Education and Music (voice) from Illinois State University in 1973. She taught a half a year at Rufus Easton Elementary School in Alton, Illinois, later teaching for a year at Fieldon Elementary School in Fieldon, Illinois. GG met her husband, Robert “Bob” Reid, during summer school at Alton High School in 1968. They were married in 1974 and moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. They recently celebrated 48 years of marriage.

GG and Bob resided in Grand Haven for the last 28 years, and GG was a stained-glass artist for 20 years, making stained-glass windows and kitchen cabinet doors. She later developed an interest in glass-bead making, and made several necklaces and bracelets through the years with the beads she created. GG was then able to have her glass art displayed at the Gallery Uptown in Grand Haven, where her art can still be viewed.

GG learned how to pilot a hot-air balloon, and logged over 100 hours as Pilot in Command. She loved being involved in Theatre, performing with the Livingston Players in Brighton, MI in several plays including, “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Nunsense,” and “Do Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?” GG’s biggest passion was caring for the many Scottie dogs she had in her lifetime, of whom she loved dearly. GG also had quite a collection of Scottie figurines which she enjoyed collecting over the years. She will be remembered by so many people she came into contact with.

GG will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by her husband, Bob; her sister, Pamela (James) Havens-Crotchett of Jerseyville, Illinois; her longtime caregiver, Melissa DeWitt; and many friends.

The Memorial Service for GG will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home, with Rev. John Koedyker officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
