George Smith, Jr. Obituary

George James Smith, Jr., age 100 of Grand Haven, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at a local care facility. He was born on April 29, 1921 in Muskegon, MI to the late George J. and Bonita (Plummer) Smith, Sr. George married his sweetheart, Marilyn Baldwin on March 28, 1959 in Orange, CA. She preceded him in death on June 16, 2016 after 57 years of marriage.

George graduated from Muskegon High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the US Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946, during World War II. While serving in the military, he took several photography classes which afforded him steady work upon his discharge from the service.

George faithfully attended services at United Lutheran Church and enjoyed working as a self-employed photographer for many years. He loved to travel and be on the water and cherished many memories of sailing, fishing, and going on cruises with his wife. In their younger years, He and Marilyn enjoyed going dancing.

George is lovingly remembered and survived by his daughter, Christi Lynn Smith-Heinz of Grand Haven; sons, Tari (Penny) Smith of Grand Haven, Randy (Karen) Smith also of Grand Haven; step-children, Sue (Jerry) Grevel of Muskegon and Jim Searer of Muskegon; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and his sister, Jean Owens of Orange, CA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Smith; and sister, Patricia Duker.
