George M. Gardner Sr., age 84 of Free Soil, MI, formerly of Grand Haven, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Woodland Gardens Assisted Living, after being evicted from Sweetwater Creek Adult Foster Care for bad behavior. Actually, George had a history of getting kicked out of places like school, bars, and adult foster care homes. He was born on November 15, 1939 in Kalamazoo, MI to the late Howard Melton and Hester Mae (Parker) Gardner. He married Linda Weavers on June 15, 1998.
George was a long-time resident of Grand Haven where he worked for Oldberg Manufacturing, Dick’s Towing, and himself, all as a mechanic, and finished his career working for and retiring from the City of Grand Haven in the wastewater treatment plant. He was a great mechanic, a lover of Bud Light, and a seasoned bar fighter who enjoyed watching Westerns and working in his yard in his later years.
George will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife, Linda; two sons, George (Jane) Gardner, Jr. and Jeff Gardner; step-daughter, Jennifer (Clare) VanderZwaag; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Gerald Gardner; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Gene, Don, Bob, and Jimmy; and his sister-in-law, Linda Gardner.
In honor of George’s memory, please give a loved one a hug and always tell the truth.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
