Gayle Marie (Japenga) Tighe

Gayle Marie Tighe, age 76 of Grand Haven, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 7, 2023. She was born on April 6, 1947 in Grand Haven, MI to the late Robert and Joan (Susterich) Japenga.

Gayle worked for Eastern Airlines before marrying John Tighe on September 13, 1969. He preceded her in death on June 17, 2017, after 47 years of marriage.

Gayle was a stay-at-home mom who cherished the time she had raising her children. She loved to cook and spend time with her family. Gayle especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. When her children were grown, she spent many hours as a volunteer at the Loutit Library.

Gayle is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Dan) Cantrell of Clarkston, MI; her son, Brian (Courtney) Tighe of Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren: Maddie and Sarah Cantrell, and Jack, Savannah, and Sam Tighe; her brother, Robert (Barbara) Japenga; two sisters, Pat Japenga and Mary Jo (Steve) Lange; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her infant grandsons, Aiden and Jude Tighe; and brother-in-law, Sam Broyles.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
