Friedrich Ott, age 91 of Grand Haven (formerly of Frankenmuth, MI), passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 7, 2022. He was born on March 7, 1931 in Cadolzburg, Germany to Georg and Margarethe Saffer Ott.
Upon his graduation from high school, Friedrich went on to attend college for two years. On June 21, 1952, he married Rosemarie Schmid in Cadolzburg, Germany. Friedrich worked for the Michigan Bean Co. in Saginaw for seven years after he and Rosemarie settled in Frankenmuth. He then went to work at General Motors as a millwright in the GM Steering Gear Plant in Saginaw for 30 years before his retirement.
Friedrich was a long-time and faithful member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church of Frankenmuth. He was a talented craftsman who enjoyed creating keepsakes with wrought iron. He enjoyed traveling back to Europe many times, as well as traveling to nearly all 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii. Friedrich and Rosemarie also went on many cruises during their 70 years of marriage.
Friedrich is survived by his daughter, Angela J. (Robert) Jewell of Grand Haven; two grandchildren, Erika (Austin) Mariglia and Lisa (Jose') Bonilla; two great-grandsons, Isaiah Mariglia and Jude Bonilla; and one sister living in Germany. He was preceded in death by his brother.
A private family Memorial Service for Friedrich will be held at Klaassen Family Funeral Home with Pastor Dieter Haupt officiating. Interment will be at Grand Haven Township Historic Cemetery.
