Frederick "Fred" Cooper Obituary

Frederick “Fred” Cooper, age 75 of Spring Lake, passed away Monday, September 28, 2020 at home. He was born on December 20, 1944 in Muskegon, MI to the late Ernest and Lavinia (Banninga) Cooper. Fred married Susan “Sue” Bytwerk on January 12, 1979 in Muskegon, MI. She preceded him in death on June 20, 2017.

Fred proudly served his country in the US Army, had attended Second Christian Reformed Church in Grand Haven, and was a member of Harvest Bible Chapel (Spring Lake), where he was active in the small group “Snowbirds.”

Fred had been employed for many years at Clark Floor and Machine in Muskegon, then worked as a Sales Rep for Shaw Walker, and was former president of TML Trucking. Prior to his retirement, he was co-owner and managing partner of ACE Trucking.

Fred spent many hours volunteering for Harbor Hospice and was instrumental in founding Dib’s Resale for Muskegon Christian Schools.  He was an avid traveler, both nationally and internationally, but especially enjoyed the warmer climates of Palm Springs. For several years, he spent extended time in South Florida with Lisa and Jay Merritt.

Fred also enjoyed downhill skiing with the family in Aspen, CO and bicycling with Sue. He was a big Detroit Lions and U of M fan and enjoyed attending and watching their games on T.V.

Fred is remembered and missed by his son, Jason (Julie) Cooper; daughters, Holly (Matthew) Zimmerman and Kristen (Ryan Goloversic) Cooper; sister, Louanne (Frank) Jackson; sister-in-law, Janice (Laurens) Ten Kate; brothers- in-law, Bruce (Luane) Bytwerk and Rich (Grace) Medendorp; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan; twin brother, Victor Cooper; brother, Robert Cooper; sister and brother-in-law, Carol (Mike) Ballard; and sister-in-law, Patricia Medendorp.
