Frederick "Fred" Casey Bruhn, age 87, of Ferrysburg, MI, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Grand Pines Assisted Living. He was born on August 10, 1937, in Grand Haven, MI, to the late Frederick and Ruth (Casey) Bruhn.
Fred graduated from Grand Haven High School, Class of 1955. He then went on to earn his Bachelor of Psychology degree from Western Michigan University, and later, his Master of Psychology and EDS degree from Michigan State University. Fred began his career working as a schoolteacher for Charlotte Public Schools, Fremont Public Schools and Grand Haven Area Public Schools and then spent 30 years working in Administration for Mona Shores Public Schools, from which he retired from.
Fred was a lifetime member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, and 20-plus year member and dedicated volunteer of the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival Committee. He was founder and co-developer of Swiss Village in Ferrysburg, buying and developing many other buildings for housing throughout the years, which kept him active in construction and remodeling.
Fred loved his antique cars and owned the family's Ford Model A. He enjoyed resorting and showing his Robin egg blue 1955 Thunderbird which earned him many trophies and prizes. Most importantly, Fred loved his family and grandkids.
Fred is forever remembered and missed by his three sons: Dr. Casey Bruhn of Grand Haven, Chad (Tonya) Bruhn of Ellenton, FL, and Calvin (Brandy) Bruhn of Grand Haven; five grandchildren: Nicholas, Lucas, Josie, Zachary, and Joel Bruhn; his sister, Shirlee Achterhof; brother, Joe Bruhn; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Vicki Verplank and Marilouise Reuterdahl; sister-in-law, Carole Bruhn; and brothers-in-law, Kenneth Achterhof, Gary Verplank, and Carl Reuterdahl.
The Memorial Service for Fred will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ with Pastor Matt Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery.
