Evan G. Simmons, age 65 of Greenville, MI, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was born on May 8, 1957 in Kane, IL to Robert and Martha (Darnell) Simmons, the fifth of eight children.
Evan moved with his family in 1959 to Grand Rapids, MI, where he attended St. Stephens Grade School and later, Ottawa Hills High School. He worked as a chiller/boiler specialist for American Laundry for most of his life until job related injuries forced him to leave and start his own business. In 1979, he met the love of his life, Kathleen, and they were married on June 25, 1983.
Evan was a renowned Harley Davidson enthusiast and mechanic who amazed all that came to him for repair and rebuild. This was the passion of his calling in life, and he did it without exception to perfection.
He loved riding his motorcycle and being outdoors, going hunting, fishing, and gardening when he was not at the shop working on bikes.
Evan is survived by the love of his life and wife of 39 years, Kathy Simmons; sister, Cathleen of Orlando, FL; long-time best friend, Ed Fassen; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Peter, Michael, John, and Philip Simmons.
A Celebration of Life gathering to honor Evan will be held at a later date to be announced. The family will welcome all who knew and loved Evan.
Interment will be at Graceland Memorial Park & Mausoleum in Grand Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions in Evan’s memory may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
