Elsie Jolean Meredith, age 73, of Grand Haven, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Holland Hospital. She was born on August 17, 1950, in Traverse City, MI, to the late Milton and Alice (Hinckley) Kreigh. Elsie married Wendell “Bill” Meredith on August 22, 1968, in Spring Lake. He preceded her in death on May 6, 2013, after 44 years of marriage.
Elsie was a stay-at-home mother who enjoyed serving the local Salvation Army as a bell ringer during the holiday season. She also enjoyed going to carnivals and concerts and was a big fan of older country music. Elsie was a collector of Mickey Mouse memorabilia and always saved everything. She especially liked to color, work on puzzles and word searches, and researching her family genealogy.
Elsie will be lovingly remembered and missed by her daughters, Kimberly Meredith of Muskegon and Vicki Sanger (Chad Alsteens) of Grand Haven; adopted daughter, Sheila Vinson; 11 grandchildren: Scott Sanger, A.J. Sanger (Reba Jordan), Brittanie (Josh) Nelson, Kyle (Meredith) Reynolds, Nitosha Wiegand, Tyler Bragdon, D.J. Bragdon, Jessica (Hope) Vantassel, Kristopher Baumgarner, Courtney Baumgarner (Marvin Smith), and Brandon Baumgarner; many great-grandchildren; sister, Sandra (Dale) Wheeler; son-in-law, Bill Long; sisters-in-law, Patricia Meredith and Donna DeCan-Pranger; brother-in-law, James Tice; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Samantha Meredith-Long (2022); great-grandchildren, Dominic Baumgarner (2006) and Kaitlynn Nelson (2012); sisters, Mabel Tice and Mary Ann Kreigh; brother, Johnny Kreigh; and parents-in-law, George and Natalie Downs.
The Funeral Service for Elsie will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Doug Bytwerk officiating. Visitations will be held on Monday, August 12th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Klaassen Family Funeral Home, as well as one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
Interment will be at Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery.
