Dylan Soper Tarr, age 25, of Grand Haven, passed away Friday, July 12, 2019. He was born December 18, 1993, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to Nan Soper and John Tarr.
Dylan graduated from Grand Haven High School in 2012 and Michigan State University in 2017, earning degrees in English Literature and Writing. He was employed at the Grand Rapids Public Library and was preparing to move to Seattle to begin a master’s degree program at the University of Washington at the time of his unexpected passing. Dylan ran track and cross country in high school earning All-Area Honors and competing in three state finals.
He loved to read, and played guitar and bass in several indie bands, including The Gimmes, Convenient Trash, and tim. He performed throughout the state at venues including The Loft, The Intersection, and The Pyramid Scheme. Dylan was an avid freelance writer contributing to WMEAC, The Hard Times, ing Magazine, The Journal of Popular Culture, Skip Fiction, City Pulse, On the Town, and The Revue.
His family and many friends will sadly miss his creativity, athleticism, unique insights, and wonderful sense of humor.
Dylan is survived by his parents, Nan Soper and John Tarr; grandparents, Paul and Sue Tarr; aunt, Lynn Soper; uncle, Mark (Becky) Soper; uncle, Rick (Helen) Tarr; great-uncle, Chris (Jessie) Neidert; and cousins, Janet (Anthony) Hendricks, Ryan Soper, Julie (Eric) Kohut, and Brian (Tami) Neidert. Dylan was preceded in death by his grandparents Howard and Shirley Soper. In addition, Dylan will be missed by a whole host of unique friends including: John Akers, Logan Boyle, Danny Brueck, Casey Carlson, Ian Courtney, Dani Dillon, Evan Dunne, Ryan and Joe Duff, Nikki Elchuk, Adam Foldesi, Will Graham, Mikey Hall, Blake Hatherly, Molly LaBeff, Emma LaVercombe, Robin Marcinkus, Ryan McMahon, Justin Pippel, Ryen Reynolds, Will Savino, Travis Slater, Trevor Swanson, Peter Van Winkle, Jane and Schalk Van Niekerk, Adam Winebarger, Ben Wichman, Jonah Yoshonis.
A Celebration of Dylan’s Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, July 19, 2019, at All Shores Wesleyan Church, 15550 Cleveland, in Spring Lake, with Pastor Pete Yoshonis officiating.
