Dr. Mathias Georg Weitz

Dr. Mathias Georg Weitz, age 74 of Grand Haven (formerly of Oxford, MI), passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. He was born on September 2, 1948 in Wels, Austria to the late Franz and Maria (Ludwig) Weitz. Mathias married Catherine Maloney on September 19, 2003 in Clarkston, MI.

After graduating from high school, Mathias graduated from Western Michigan University and went on to Michigan State University to receive his Doctorate in Medicine. He was a member of Carpathia German Club, and enjoyed being a teacher, before going back to school to become a doctor. He started a practice at a clinic in Oxford, retiring after 36 years of service. He loved History, reading, and traveling.

Mathias will be remembered and forever missed by his wife, Cathy; sons, Erik (Sarah)Weitz and her daughter Zoe Heckaman and Sean Weitz; his beloved grandson, Galen Weitz; step-son, Matthew (Jeannette) Rogghe; step-daughter, Amy Rogghe; his mother-in-law, Virginia Maloney; sister, Rosemary Wrobel; several brothers-in-law and sisters in-law; and his two nieces, Tanya and Sarah Wrobel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and father-in-law, Frank Maloney.

A Celebration of Mathias' life will take place at a later date to be announced.
