Dorothy M. (VanCoevering) Tierman

Dorothy M. Tierman, age 97, of Grand Haven, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Trinity Health Grand Haven Hospital. She was born on May 25, 1928, in Grand Haven, MI, to the late John and Angie (Hoffman) VanCoevering. Dorothy married Arthur Tierman on April 12, 1950, in Grand Haven. He preceded her in death on November 24, 1991, after 41 years of marriage.

Dorothy graduated from Grand Haven High School and was a lifelong resident of Grand Haven. She began her career working for the family's business, VanCoevering Shoe Store. Later, she worked in the Food Service Dept. for Grand Haven Area Public Schools for 20 years, retiring in 1991.

Dorothy was a member of First Christian Reformed Church where she served as deaconess, sang in the choir, taught Vacation Bible School, and worked on funeral luncheons and other church functions. She also was a member of Mary Martha Guild and served as a counselor for the Calvinette's. She enjoyed knitting, reading, and especially helping others in need.

Dorothy will be lovingly remembered and missed by her four children: Cindy (Tim) VanSchaik, Kathy (David) Barber, Roger (Pam) Tierman, and Richard (Mary) Woodward; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sisters: Cornelia (Clarence) Johnson, Johanna Start, and Ella (Jack) Rosema; and brothers, John (Rachel) VanCoevering and Don VanCoevering.

The Funeral Service for Dorothy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Klaassen Family Funeral Home with Pastor Arthur Van Wolde officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 9th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery.
