Dorothy J. Kellogg, age 98, of Spring Lake, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at home. She was born on March 11, 1928, in Grand Haven, MI, to the late John and Emily (Brouchek) Tysman. Dorothy married Eugene C. Earle on April 11, 1949. She then married the love of her life, Verlyn Kellogg, on August 28, 1982. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2020, after sharing 37 years of marriage.
Dorothy graduated from Grand Haven High School, Class of 1946. After a lifetime in Owosso, MI, she was fortunate to be able to come back to the area almost four years ago. She began her working career at McLellan's Five and Dime Store, and later, worked with her first husband, Eugene, at Earle's T.V. Repair in downtown Owosso. Years later, she re-entered the workforce at Town & Country Carpet Store.
Dorothy was strong in her faith beginning with Hope Church-Grand Haven, and then was a longtime member of First Church of Christ in Owosso. Her and Verlyn spent 13 years providing a weekly church service for residents of Pleasant View. In her spare time, she was an excellent seamstress who especially enjoyed making clothes for herself and her daughters, including their wedding dresses. Dorothy also loved square-dancing, traveling, playing Scrabble, and was especially proficient with the newspaper's nightly crossword puzzles. Most importantly, she loved being a grandmother and attending many of her grandchildren's events.
Dorothy will be lovingly remembered and missed by her two daughters, Kathleen (Rodney) Mehl and Elaine (Gary) Juhnke; her son, David Earle; four grandchildren: Katelyn Mehl, April (Hunter) Koster, John Earle, and Kelly Ashley; and seven great-grandchildren. She was especially loved by her many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Verlyn; daughter-in-law, Cindy Earle; her sisters, Betty (Melbert) Clover-Wedge and Doris (Leo) Earle; and her two brothers, Donald and Richard (Jackie) Tysman.
The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to her hospice nurse, Holly Sprick, and the AdvisaCare staff at Lloyd's Bayou Baldwin House.
A Funeral Service for Dorothy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Hope Church, with Pastor Tim Taylor officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
A Memorial Service for Dorothy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2026, at First Church of Christ-Owosso. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
