Donald Ver Heul Obituary

Donald A. Ver Heul, age 72 of Grand Haven, passed away on Monday, November 14 2022 at Trinity Health Muskegon Hospital. He was born on January 21, 1950 in Muskegon, MI to Arthur and Rosella (Noble) Ver Heul.

Don graduated from Western Michigan Christian High School and began his college education at Calvin College, graduating from Michigan State University in 1972. After a brief stint in the savings and loan industry, he resumed his studies at Western Michigan University, earning his MBA in 1974.

Don met his wife, Rosemary Dyke, during the Young Calvinist Convention in the summer of 1968. After a lengthy courtship, they were married on March 23, 1973 in Allendale, MI, and lived in Grand Rapids until October of 1978. A job transfer moved them to Grand Haven; they enjoyed living in the Tri-Cities area, considering it a blessing to raise their children there.

Don worked as an accountant for several companies throughout his career. He was an active volunteer, serving as a member and officer on the Grand Haven Christian School and Tri-Cities Y.M.C.A. boards. Don also was a member of Four Pointes Center for Successful Aging where he served as treasurer for the Board of Directors. He also held brief memberships with the Grand Haven Rotary Club and AMBUCS.

Don attended Ferrysburg Community Church for 40 plus years where he served as Sunday School teacher, elder, deacon, and treasurer. He liked playing tennis, and especially enjoyed the camaraderie shared with his fellow tennis players. Don also enjoyed watching sports, reading, working on puzzles, and working around his yard. He and Rosemary looked forward to camping on Labor Day weekend in Pentwater, and hosting “Grandma Camp” year after year.

Don is remembered and missed by his wife of 49 years, Rosemary; his daughter, Emily (Bryan) Herder of Kalamazoo; and son, Nathan (Joy’l) Ver Heul of Grand Rapids; his five grandchildren: Aubrey, Logan, and Kyle Herder of Kalamazoo, and Tristan and Aviella Ver Heul of Grand Rapids; his mother, Rosella Ver Heul of Muskegon; two sisters, Nancy (Jeff) Kermath and Laurie (Roger) Slorf, all of Muskegon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Ver Heul.
