Donald Wayne Kieft, age 88 of Spring Lake, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Dogwood Shores Assisted Living. He was born on February 23, 1935, in Spring Lake, MI. Don married Delores Ann Tindall on July 28, 1955, and she preceded him in death on July 22, 2023, just days before their 68th wedding anniversary.
Don graduated from Grand Haven High School, Class of 1953. In 1957, after he and Delores were married, they built their first home on the family farm property on Dogwood Drive in Spring Lake, and in 2002, they built their retirement home on their lot next door.
Don worked for Snow White Bakery in Muskegon as a route driver for seven years, later retiring from Heyboer Transformers in Grand Haven after 37 years as a supervisor.
Don was a lifelong resident of Spring Lake and a longtime member of First Reformed Church in Grand Haven. He enjoyed spending time working in his yard, fishing, and collecting vintage Coleman lanterns and furniture, which he always kept clean and polished. He also enjoyed refurbishing boats and trailers and did small engine repair work. Don loved to grill. His smoked fish were excellent, and he loved to share them with friends and family.
Don is forever remembered and missed by his son, Brent (Anne) Kieft of Centennial, CO; five grandchildren: Erin (David) Porteous, Andrew (Maggie) Kieft, Brett Kieft, Cody (Laura) Kieft, and Eric Kieft; sister-in-law, Garnet Angel; and brothers-in-law: Lawrence (Judith) Tindall, Kenn (Suki) Tindall, and Nelson (Dawn) VanLeeuwan.
He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Kerry Kieft; sisters, Carol VanLeeuwan and Judith (James) Beattie; and brother-in-law, Jay Angel.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dawn and the staff at Dogwood Shores Assisted Living for their wonderful care of Don and his wife, Delores, during their time residing there.
The Funeral Service for Don will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024, at Klaassen Family Funeral Home, with Chaplain Nathaniel Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Spring Lake Township Cemetery.
