David Carlson Obituary

David Alan Carlson, age 80, formerly of Grand Haven, Michigan, passed away on Friday, June 4, 2021 in Sebring, Florida. He was born on March 10, 1941 in Chicago, IL to the late Clare H. and Catherine E. (Fleming) Carlson. Dave married Maureen Schreiber in Chicago in 1964, and relocated to Grand Haven in 1986. They were married for 44 years until Maureen’s death in 2009, raised five children, and were blessed with ten grandchildren.

In 2012, Dave married Diane M. “Nikki” (Severance), and they enjoyed sailing and walking in the woods with their dog, Dulcie. They were looking forward to their move to a new home and adventures in Sebring, Florida in May.

Dave was a loving and generous man who was a member of St. Patrick - St. Anthony Catholic Church for over 35 years. He was a proud US Navy Veteran who served his country from 1959 to 1962 and was active in Tri-Cities Right to Life, served as Post Commander #97 (2015-2016) of American Legion, Charles A. Conklin Post #28, and was a dedicated member of the Honor Guard.

Dave loved his family, his bible, and the U.S. Constitution. He was grateful for the ten years he owned and sailed his MacGregor 26 sailboat, and was happy to discuss the issues of the day and demonstrate that his mind was not easily changed.

Dave is survived by his wife, Nikki; daughters, Mary Beth (Steve) Franzen of St. Charles, MO, Karen Carlson of Memphis, TN, and Diana Tober of Grand Haven, MI; sons, David P. Carlson (Jessica Feith) of Winnetka, IL and FORCM (SW/AW) Greg (Julie) Carlson of Coronado, CA; 10 grandchildren: Rebecca, Jenna, Alex, Oscar, Maria, Bruno, Ryan, Sam, Emmett, and Evan; one great-grandchild, Hailey Maureen; sisters, Sandra Tucker and Marcia Mahon; in-laws: Mary Ann Carlson, Melanie (Jerry) Wisniewski, Kathy Schreiber, Joe Kroschel, Sharon (Mike) Dunn, Sally Bradley, James (Julie) Severance, and William Severance; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maureen; his brother, Jim Carlson; and in-laws, Dave Tucker, Ed Mahon, Gerry Schreiber and Patricia Kroschel.
