Dale Blackmer Obituary

Dale Blackmer, age 69 of Grand Haven, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. He was born on May 7, 1951 in Muskegon, MI to the late Burton and Dolores (Marchido) Blackmer.

After graduating from High School, Dale joined the U.S. Marine Corp. and proudly served our country from 1968 to 1970. He then married JoAnne Clink on February 28, 1977 in Grand Haven, MI. Dale was a tool and die maker for many years, often traveling for work, which he enjoyed. He was a hard worker who could fix just about anything and was known as a perfectionist when it came to his work. Dale was big into body building in his younger days, and in 1995, he won the body-building title of “Mr. Muskegon.” He was a member of the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post 28 and loved old Westerns, golfing, having cookouts with friends and family, playing corn-hole, and spending time with his family.

Dale is forever remembered and deeply missed by his wife of 44 years, JoAnne Blackmer of Grand Haven; two daughters, Tracy (Derek) Simonds of Grand Haven and Joanna (Charley) Gabet, of Indiana; his four sons, Burton (Britt) Blackmer of Indiana, Chris (Jenn) Blackmer, Art Blackmer, and Jeff (Lisa) Blackmer, all of Grand Haven; 18 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; his sister, Kathy Kendra; and his two brothers, Frank (Cheryl) Blackmer and David Blackmer. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cherill Ann Blackmer; his son, Benjamin Blackmer; and his sister, Sandra Jo Blackmer.

Private family services for Dale will take place at Klaassen Family Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Anderson officiating. Full Military Rites to be performed by the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post 28.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society of Michigan.
