Clyde Jay Westra

Clyde Jay Westra, age 74 of Grand Rapids, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at home. He was born on January 7, 1948 in Grand Haven, MI to the late Jake and Ruth (Sands) Westra. Clyde married Janice Putnam on June 17, 1995 in Grand Rapids.

Clyde attended Grand Haven Public Schools and then went on to proudly serve his country in the US Marine Corps. from 1965 to 1969, during the Vietnam War Era. He worked for Meadow Lanes Golf Club as manager and superintendent for 23 years before his retirement.

Clyde loved golfing, boating, fishing, hunting, camping, and gardening. He also enjoyed remote-control cars and spending time in Florida.

Clyde is remembered and missed by his wife of 27 years, Janice; his son, Sam Westra; his two daughters, Alisha Baker (Ben Clawson) and Anjela Straight; six grandchildren: Christian, Logan, Robin, Autumn, Austin, and Dennis; brother-in-law, Jim Vandervos; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake (Nancy) Westra and Ruth Sands; and his sister, Deb Vandervos.

The Memorial Service for Clyde will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home with Pastor Kathy Bartels officiating. Full Military Honors to be provided by the American Legion, Charles A. Conklin Post 28. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date.
